Ming the Clam

Ming was a Quahog Clam who lived an extremely long life — which was sadly cut short in the name of science. At 507 years of age this clam was the oldest individual animal to have had its age accurately determined. It was found off the northern coast of Iceland by researchers studying climate change. 


Immortal Jellyfish 

Want the key to immortal life? Some scientists believe the secret may lie with the Immortal Jellyfish — otherwise known as Turritopsis dohrnii. This jellyfish makes its home in the Mediterranean Sea and the waters of Japan. It’s the only known animal that has the ability to revert back to an immature state.

The Immortal Jellyfish changes back to a more juvenile form when it’s stressed — either by its environment, or because it’s being attacked. It then reverts back to a polyp stage, and forms a new polyp colony. Jellyfish bud off from the polyp colony and transition to their free-swimming form. In theory, this cycle could go on indefinitely — making the jellyfish immortal… Unless it succumbs to disease or gets eaten in the meantime!

Cut Too Many Calories
